Editing our footage

During the editing process  of our film opening sequence, we first made sure all of the videos were on the shared documents so that we could have access to them all and use them.

We then first put all the videos on to adobe premier pro in order so that we knew we had all the footage we needed before we began to start cropping the videos and adding titles etc.

Once we finished cropping the videos in order to make the opening sequence flow, we were then given feedback by a media coursework teacher on what he thinks should be improved.

We made notes on what he said:

Here are some pictures of the editing process:

Feedback of blog

Although our film opening sequence is a major part of our overall coursework, our blog also contributes to our grade and we need to make sure that our blog is up to date all the time and shows all of the 7 key areas.

The 7 key areas are:

This is what feedback we were given about our blog:

I decided that I would do a tally of the amount of posts that relate to each of the 7 key areas:

After making a tally, it was much easier to see what we needed more of. A lot of what we are lacking are what has been said on the blog feedback.

So the next step was to make a list of things of what to do in order to improve our blog. most of it includes the amount of blog posts we need to do as well as re-categorising or adding more categories to our posts.

This was what I made:

Audience/Teacher Feedback

In order for us to understand what we need to work on as a group to improve our blog and film, we were given some feedback from our teacher. He gave us an E grade as we did not post our 2 minute footage yet since it was still being edited at the time.

This is what he said about our group blog and film:

Yard Productions feedback: Phoebe, Niyi, Sophie, Amber
At the moment, based on what I’ve seen, you can only score a BASIC level because you have not finished. It must be finished on April 13th! The final cut.

Your opening so far shows real promise but it must be finished. AS WELL AS THE EVALUATION!

• Producing material appropriate for the target audience and task; YES, YOU HAVE ACHIEVED THIS, THE THRILLERISH/GANGSTER FEEL OF THE FILM IS EFFECTIVE.

using titles appropriately according to institutional conventions;
THIS MUST BE SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVED, DEVELOPED

• using sound with images and editing appropriately for the task set;
YOUR USE OF SOUND IS GOOD BUT IT MUST BE DEVELOPED SO THAT THE DIALOGUE IS IMPROVED

• shooting material appropriate to the task set;, including controlled use of the camera, attention to framing, variety of shot distance and close attention to mise-en-scene;
YOU HAVE USED A VARIETY OF CAMERA SHOTS, WITH A CONTROLLED USE OF CAMERA SHOWN, A VARIETY OF SHOT DISTANCE HAS BEEN SHOWN. BUT MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE WITH REGARDS TO LIGHTING ETC.

• using editing so that meaning is apparent to the viewer and making selective and appropriate use of shot transitions and other effects.
YOUR EDITING IS FAST-PACED AND APPROPRIATE BUT OBVIOUSLY YOU MUST FINISH YOUR FILM. MAKE SURE ALL ROUGH EDGES ARE SMOOTHED OUT.

Feedback

We showed some people our non edited second part of the opening that Niyi had filmed with his friends. We had a good response back and they like all the clever angles and good camera shots used in the clips, for example when the ball was on the floor in the corner with the newspaper. We also had a negative feedback which was that the lightning changed quit quickly whilst the boys were filming which did make it look less convincing,  but as it is only a rough cut we wont do it again because the footage we got the first time was good enough to use and our deadline is coming up. We will definitely take this into consideration when we are doing our final one and this will be something that we will change to make sure that it is all filmed at the same time, (this will be easier for our final cut as the deadline is closer to summer which means that it wont get dark as quick than it will know in the winter)

Poll for deciding our film title

Being caught up on the planning for our filming such as the camera shots we want to use, the mise en scene we want to create and the music/sound we are thinking of incorporating, our group have finally got round to deciding ideas for names for our film title and have thought of creating a poll open to internet viewers. This is so that it could help us to decide our film title based on the views/opinions of potential audiences/viewers as they are essential to helping us figure out how to make a good movie opening.

Here is the poll created:

Which film title sounds more interesting?
The Innocent
Innocent Murder
Innocent Killer
Other
Please Specify:

Poll Maker

We later looked back and the results, and saw that The Innocent had won the most votes therefore is our new title for our film opening
