Our final cut of our film opening sequence

On April 2nd we finished editing entire film opening sequence. We did have a problem making it 2 minutes as we were 10 seconds short of that however we were relieved to find out that it should be 1 minute and 45 seconds minimum.

This is our final cut:

Editing our footage

During the editing process  of our film opening sequence, we first made sure all of the videos were on the shared documents so that we could have access to them all and use them.

We then first put all the videos on to adobe premier pro in order so that we knew we had all the footage we needed before we began to start cropping the videos and adding titles etc.

Once we finished cropping the videos in order to make the opening sequence flow, we were then given feedback by a media coursework teacher on what he thinks should be improved.

We made notes on what he said:

Here are some pictures of the editing process:

Booking equipment for our second filming day

After filming our first part of the film, we then had to consider another date for our second filming day. We then decided to send an email to the IT technicians again to book the cameras.

Here is a screenshot of the email sent to her:

Unfortunately we were unable to get the same cameras as last time and instead ended up with a HD dvc handheld camera along with a charger and a spare battery.

Audience/Teacher Feedback

In order for us to understand what we need to work on as a group to improve our blog and film, we were given some feedback from our teacher. He gave us an E grade as we did not post our 2 minute footage yet since it was still being edited at the time.

This is what he said about our group blog and film:

Yard Productions feedback: Phoebe, Niyi, Sophie, Amber
At the moment, based on what I’ve seen, you can only score a BASIC level because you have not finished. It must be finished on April 13th! The final cut.

Your opening so far shows real promise but it must be finished. AS WELL AS THE EVALUATION!

• Producing material appropriate for the target audience and task; YES, YOU HAVE ACHIEVED THIS, THE THRILLERISH/GANGSTER FEEL OF THE FILM IS EFFECTIVE.

using titles appropriately according to institutional conventions;
THIS MUST BE SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVED, DEVELOPED

• using sound with images and editing appropriately for the task set;
YOUR USE OF SOUND IS GOOD BUT IT MUST BE DEVELOPED SO THAT THE DIALOGUE IS IMPROVED

• shooting material appropriate to the task set;, including controlled use of the camera, attention to framing, variety of shot distance and close attention to mise-en-scene;
YOU HAVE USED A VARIETY OF CAMERA SHOTS, WITH A CONTROLLED USE OF CAMERA SHOWN, A VARIETY OF SHOT DISTANCE HAS BEEN SHOWN. BUT MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE WITH REGARDS TO LIGHTING ETC.

• using editing so that meaning is apparent to the viewer and making selective and appropriate use of shot transitions and other effects.
YOUR EDITING IS FAST-PACED AND APPROPRIATE BUT OBVIOUSLY YOU MUST FINISH YOUR FILM. MAKE SURE ALL ROUGH EDGES ARE SMOOTHED OUT.

Filming Update-Time management

After filming the first part of our film opening and editing it to find it to be 1 minute and 37 seconds long, we decided to organise another filming day to finish the rest of the opening sequence. We were unable to book the same cameras again (Nikon Dlsr) therefore we were given a handheld camera instead. When it came to the actual filming day, our iPhone 5’s appeared to have a much better quality camera than the handheld camera which was supposedly a HD camera therefore we continued the filming with our phone cameras instead.

We filmed the last part of our film opening on 30th March.

Here is evidence of organising dates to do the second part of filming:

03/02/15 – what are we doing this lesson?

In todays lesson we looked at other group blogs and gave them 2 stars and a medal. We also tried our green screen trial and came up with something that we could use in our final opening.

we used a green screen so that we could put an image of Sophie’s house behind it as that is where the setting of our film is when the murder happens.

02/02/15 – what are we doing this lesson

In todays lesson most groups are trialling out the green screen for the dream sequence. We will probably not get onto this today because we are slightly behind editing. We may not use the green screen for our final ream sequence so we can trial it out next lesson once we have finished more of the editing and updated our blog.
